Rumor Roundup: WWE’s Plans For Jey Uso, Survivor Series Bonuses, More

3) When WWE Originally Hoped To Be Back Doing Live Shows With Fans

Stephanie McMahon recently appeared on the Forbes CMO Summit Virtual Series. During this, she revealed that WWE was originally hoping to be back doing live shows with fans in the Fall. These plans obviously never came to fruition.

Here is what she said:

“We continued to produce seven hours of live content for television partners on USA and FOX specifically, but we also produce content for a myriad of channels and platforms and we never stopped. What we found is that our fans mean everything. They bring the energy, they bring excitement, they bring the spectacle, and without them, the shows are just not the same. Our ratings fell off. We tried bringing in our developmental talent to see if that would help in terms of some type of audience but it just wasn’t enough. Ultimately, we had hoped to be back in arenas in the fall but when we realized that wasn’t going to happen, we doubled down with a new partner called the famous group and we now have nearly 1,000 virtual fans.”

My Take:

  • The ThunderDome has been a solid solution for WWE. It hurts from a revenue point-of-view but it seems to be the safest option right now.

2) Rick Steiner’s Son Receives WWE Tryout

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Bronson Rechsteiner recently received a WWE tryout.

Bronson is the son of Rick Steiner. He played Fullback at Kennesaw State and was cut by the Baltimore Ravens during this past preseason.

My Take:

  • I will be interested to see how he does if he commits to the full-time move to pro-wrestling.
