Rumor Roundup: WWE’s Plan For Summerslam, Scrapped WWE Faction Plans, More

3) Backstage Note On Mickie James’ Release

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE tried Mickie James out as a commentator. This was prior to her release from WWE.

Here is what Meltzer wrote:

Wrestling is a cosmetic business, perhaps less now than in the past in some cases and especially for women, but it still partially is. Her not being used and her age made her a prime target to be cut. She did get tryouts to be a television announcer but that didn’t go anywhere.

My Take:

  • I think Mickie still has some gas left in the tank as a wrestler. I think that she will do well wherever she decides to go.

2) Backstage Note On Pat McAfee

According to Sports Illustrated, WWE is planning to allow Pat McAfee to be himself on the Smackdown commentary team and will try to avoid overproducing him.

Here is what the site wrote:

This platform is an opportunity McAfee has long been seeking. And though the world of wrestling, especially WWE, is always subject to change, the current plan is to let McAfee be himself on the air and avoid over-producing him. He will also continue to work on his other projects, including his podcast, while serving as one of the premier voices of SmackDown.

My Take:

  • I really liked Pat on the latest episode of Smackdown. I am looking forward to hearing more from him.
