1) WWE’s Next Television Contract
If you have been studying WWE’s ratings over the past few years, you know that they have been on a decline. This has led to some question marks from fans about if this could hurt WWE in the long-term.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has nothing to worry about when it comes to decling ratings and their next television deal.
Meltzer says that most analysts believe WWE’s rights fees will actually increase “significantly”. Here is what he wrote:
While some believe the declining ratings will hurt WWE when their current deals expire in late 2024, most analysts still believe their rights fees numbers will increase significantly.
My Take:
- Even though this is likely true, I think that WWE still needs to find a way to stabilize their ratings, especially for RAW. In 2018, the lowest-rated RAW of the year averaged 2.689 million viewers. This week’s episode of RAW averaged 1.778 million viewers. I don’t expect them to get back to those numbers but I feel like that is a scary downward trend.
