Rumor Roundup: WWE Legend Returning To The Ring, WWE Debut Expected Next Week, More

3) WWE’s Plan For House Shows Before COVID-19

Former WWE referee Mike Chioda was recently a guest on AdFreeShows.com. During this, he revealed that WWE was discussing cutting back house shows, even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic hitting.

Here is what Chioda said:

“Pretty much. I think we have because there was talk about it quite some time ago in the last couple of years before COVID-19. There was talk of canceling a lot of the house shows. Maybe do one weekend once a month. So they were already filtering out the live events and the house shows before Covid-19. I don’t believe they will do away with the European live events at certain times of the year. I think they will proceed with those tours because they make money. Those European tours are the money-making tours with a very low cost and a very high income.”

My Take:

  • I feel like the days of Superstars working 5 shows a week are dead. The pandemic just sped up that process.

2) WWE Star Signs New Contract

According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select (subscribe here), Matt Riddle has signed a new contract with WWE. Here is what Sapp wrote:

WWE were hopeful that he’d sign before the calendar rolled over to 2020, and according to sources within WWE, that happened last week. Prior to the re-signing, his contract was set to expire in August after his initial contract that he signed in 2018.

A few weeks ago, Dave Meltzer reported that he was originally offered around $400,000 per year, plus a $50,000 bonus for every Saudi Arabia event.

My Take:

  • Sounds like Riddle got a solid deal for himself.
