Rumor Roundup: Why WWE Is Using The “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” Tagline, Original Plans For Charlotte, More

3) Who Produced The ‘Backlot Brawl’?

NXT Takeover: In Your House featured a ‘Backlot Brawl’ between Adam Cole and Velveteen Dream. According to Wrestling INC, the same three people who produced the ‘Boneyard Match’ between AJ Styles and The Undertaker also produced the ‘Backlot Brawl’.

Those three people are Michael Hayes, Jeremy Borash, and Triple H:

Wrestling Inc. has also learned that the team that produced the Undertaker vs. AJ Styles”Boneyard” match at WrestleMania – Michael Hayes, Triple H and Jeremy Borash – also produced the NXT “Backlot Brawl” between Adam Cole and The Velveteen Dream. There may have been other people that had a hand in it, but they were the main people in between takes that made changes or suggestions

My Take:

  • The backlot brawl was definitely not in the same league as the boneyard match. I still liked it but it wasn’t as good as what we saw between ‘Taker and Styles. I think the constant camera cuts took away from the match at Takeover but that is just my opinion.

2) WWE Tournament Likely Canceled

It has been rumored for a while now that WWE would be bringing back the Mae Young Classic tournament. No date was set but it was rumored that WWE was contacting female talent earlier on in the year about them potentially taking part.

According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, the Mae Young Classic has likely been canceled for this year.

My Take:

  • I agree with this decision. They should save it until they are able to have a full-blown crowd in attendance. The tournament is used to discover and elevate female talent and I think they should save it for when the crowd can get invested.
