Rumor Roundup: Why WWE Hasn’t Built Towards Survivor Series Yet, WWE’s New Recruitment Strategy, More

3) Two Possible NXT Call-Ups Being Considered?

Johnny Gargano and Kyle O’Reilly faced off in the dark match before Smackdown this week. Gargano ended up beating O’Reilly in the match.

While not confirmed, this is usually a case of Gargano and O’Reilly being considered for potential call-ups to the WWE main roster.

My Take:

  • Gargano would make sense. I see O’Reilly leaving the company when his contract expires next month. We will have to wait and see.

2) No NXT Takeover On Wrestlemania 38 Weekend?

According to Mike Johnson of PWinsider, there was no mention of NXT Takeover in the travel packages for Wrestlemania 38 weekend.

Here is what Johnson wrote:

WWE released details on their Wrestlemania 38 travel packages for April 2022 today and neither the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony nor a WWE NXT Takeover event were listed for the weekend.  This year’s Hall of Fame was a virtual event, so there’s no telling if they will follow that taped format for 2022 or shift the ceremony to another weekend.

With the shift to a two-day event, there would be no need for a NXT Takeover event, although whether Takeovers will continue (and what form they will take) following the NXT 2.0 reboot remains to be seen.

My Take:

  • This would be a shame as Takeover shows on Wrestlemania weekend are always something I look forward to.
