Rumor Roundup: Why WWE Hasn’t Announced The Wrestlemania 36 Match Order, Gronk’s Role At The Event, More

3) Why WWE Is Putting So Much Content Out On Other Networks As Of Late

If you have cable, chances are that you have come across some WWE content over the past few weeks. ESPN has been airing old Wrestlemania events and FOX recently aired the Royal Rumble.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, there is a reason why WWE is putting out so much content as of late on other networks. Here is what he said (h/t to Ringside News for the quote):

“Vince is going with the idea that the more places that have this and the more eyeballs that watch this week which is why they’re flooding things they had the Royal Rumble on FS1 and they’re having WrestleManias on ESPN. They’re airing things up in Canada — with no other sports WrestleMania was the highest rated program on ESPN for the entire week. So, they wanna flood the market that way there are more eyeballs and with eyeballs the idea is that they have popularity.”

My Take:

  • This is actually a good strategy with sports fans not having much to watch these days. The idea is likely to hook old pro-wrestling fans and get them into the current product. If I was a fan who stopped watching in the early 2000s, I would definitely check out Wrestlemania this year. There are limited options on TV and the fan can treat it like a sporting event.

2) RAW After Wrestlemania 36 Footage Getting Scrapped?

A stay-at-home order was recently announced for the entire state of Florida. This has led to some rumors that WWE will be forced to take a break after Wrestlemania 36.

If a break does happen, @WrestleVotes says that some of the footage shot for the April 6th RAW won’t actually be aired:

My Take:

  • If WWE does commit to taking time off, the RAW after Wrestlemania 36 episode should probably be scrapped. WWE usually shoots new angles and storylines on this show but if they are taking a month off, there seems like no point. I would have Wrestlemania 36 serve as the season finale until they can start back up.
