Rumor Roundup: Why Cain vs Brock Was So Short, 3 WarGames Matches This Year? More

1) Why Cain Velasquez vs Brock Lesnar Was So Short

Brock Lesnar defeated Cain Velasquez in just a few minutes at WWE Crown Jewel. This came via submission after Brock was able to lock in the Kimura on Cain.

So why was this match so short?

According to WrestlingNews.co, the match was short because WWE didn’t want to risk further injury to Cain’s knee. Here is an excerpt from their report:

I was told that the match was so short because Velasquez needs knee surgery and they didn’t want to risk causing further damage. This is something that was known to WWE before he signed his deal.

I don’t know when he is scheduled for surgery but I would presume that it will be happening soon so he can rehab in time for WrestleMania season. There are plans for a rematch at some point. Velasquez has 3 years on his WWE deal so there is no rush to get to the rematch.

Dave Meltzer also added the following about Cain’s knee in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

Velasquez’s knee was worse than expected. The idea was always for a short match, with the Paul Heyman style Goldberg match lay out of big moves, but with Velasquez’s knee in such bad shape, they changed it to a match where nothing much happened.
