Rumor Roundup: Vince’s New Rule For WWE Referees, Main Event Plans For Wrestlemania, More

1) Vince’s New Rule For WWE Referees

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon has given WWE referees a new edict.

If Superstars are not paying attention to the 10-count on the outside of the ring, referees are now told to just count them out. In the past, referees would stop counts at 8 if Superstars forgot or didn’t realize that they needed to get back into the ring. This led to confusion for fans at home and in attendance.

Referees will now be calling count outs in more of a strict fashion. Here is what Meltzer wrote:

Ref Charles Robinson talked with Sean Mooney and said that Vince has told the refs that if wrestlers aren’t paying attention to the ten count outside the ring, then just count them out. Robinson noted that one of the things they often have to do is hold up on counts after eight because they realize guys won’t make it in by ten.

My Take:

  • I actually like this. I am all for things to help improve the psychology of matches. When the referee stops counting or if guys are outside for 20 seconds without getting counted out, it takes away from the psychology. Some people don’t care about that kind of stuff but it matters for some viewers.
