Rumor Roundup: Vince’s New Rule For WWE Referees, Main Event Plans For Wrestlemania, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) Interesting Note On WWE Re-Airing The Royal Rumble Match On RAW

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the RAW rating was at its usual numbers when the show started. After they started airing the men’s Royal Rumble match in its entirety, the numbers rose significantly.

However, the audience fell as soon as the Royal Rumble match was over.

Meltzer also noted that the audience “collapsed” during the short match between Rey Mysterio and Andrade. They also didn’t gain viewers back for Stone Cold Steve Austin’s segment at the end.

My Take:

  • This tells me that WWE airing old matches is working. I figured WWE would lose viewers for showing old matches that fans have already seen and I was definitely wrong. I expect to see WWE continuing to air old matches over the next few weeks. It kills time and also seems to boost ratings. Seems like a no-brainer.

4) Main Event Plans For Wrestlemania 36

According to Tom Colohue, the current plan is for Brock Lesnar vs Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns vs Goldberg to main event the two separate nights at Wrestlemania 36.

Here is what he wrote:

“The plan for the moment for the two main events is for both World Championships – that being the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship – main eventing the two separate nights. This of course means that both Vince McMahon and his intention to have Roman Reigns main event and Paul Heyman wanting to have Brock Lesnar and Drew McIntyre main event – they both get their wish.”

My Take:

  • This would make sense. I actually think that Edge vs Randy Orton has a strong case to be one of the main events. It is definitely one of the top matches that I am looking forward to. Still, it makes more sense for both World Title matches to go on last.
