Rumor Roundup: Vince McMahon’s Bad Mood Backstage, Summerslam Plans, More

3) Gronk’s WWE Future

According to a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Rob Gronkowski (aka Gronk) is done with wrestling until after his NFL contract expires.

Here is an excerpt from the report:

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Gronkowski is done with wrestling for now.

Gronk, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus, will honor his contract. Technically, honoring the contract means complying with paragraph 3 of the Standard Player Contract, which says that “[p]layer will not play football or engage in activities related to football otherwise than for Club or engage in any activity other than football which may involve a significant risk of personal injury.”

WrestlingNews.co added that Gronk was originally expected to wrestle at Summerslam this year but those plans have not been scrapped.

My Take:

  • I was looking forward to seeing Gronk in the ring with WWE. Still, as a football fan, I am excited to see him back playing. I feel conflicted on this one.

2) How WWE Employees Are Responding To Someone Saying They Are Being “Forced To Work”

A few days ago, an anonymous person sent a letter to Orange County asking for them to shut down WWE. This person claimed to be a WWE employee and alleged that WWE was forcing them to work during the coronavirus pandemic.

Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select (subscribe here) says that he has been told from multiple employees that they are not being forced to work. While saying that, some still aren’t comfortable with telling WWE they don’t want to work after the recent number of firings:

From what we’ve heard, WWE’s response is actually how things have went there. We’ve heard from multiple employees that they aren’t being forced to work, but also aren’t comfortable with letting the company know they don’t want to, especially after the layoffs.

My Take:

  • I am sure that the recent number of firings have scared a lot of employees. I am also sure that many feel like they can’t take time off or they will be let go next. It sucks but that is the culture at a lot of big companies.
