Rumor Roundup: Update On Roman Reigns’ Opponents, WWE Changing Matt Riddle’s Character, More

1) Update On Roman Reigns’ Next Opponent

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shot down two potential opponents for Roman Reigns. Both names have been rumored as potential opponents for Roman on his current heel run.

Meltzer says that WWE is NOT planning a match between Roman and Goldberg for anytime soon. This is something that was rumored after Goldberg virtually appeared on Smackdown a few weeks ago. Reigns vs Goldberg was supposed to happen at Wrestlemania 36 but was canceled after Reigns pulled out from the event. WWE isn’t looking to revisit that feud right now but could do it down the road.

Meltzer also says that WWE is not planning Roman vs John Cena for anytime soon. Here is what he wrote:

We’re told there are no immediate plans a hotshot John Cena or Bill Goldberg match right now, which can always be used as a Reigns opponent. With Goldberg, there is even a storyline since it was to be at WrestleMania before Reigns went home, and was to be a major win in Reigns’ career that hasn’t happened yet.

My Take:

  • I am perfectly fine with this. I would rather Reigns face some of the full-time guys on the roster. Look at how much that he has elevated Jey Uso since they started to work together. The more talent that Reigns can help, the better.
