Rumor Roundup: Universal Title Plans, Botched Finish At Fastlane, More

3) Backstage Reaction To Johnny Ace Being Re-Hired By WWE

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, WWE’s re-hiring of Johnny Ace has led to some backstage concern among several Superstars.

Here is what Sapp wrote:

Johnny Ace is back at the helm of talent relations in WWE. This left several wrestlers concerned — at least those that reached out to Fightful. One wrestler indicated Ace’s insistence on embracing the “diva” style performers over in-ring acumen during his time there, and were worried that line of thinking would be reflected in his hiring method again. Ace has been out of the Talent Relations role for nine years, and has replaced Mark Carrano, though Carrano is still involved in the company. Several current WWE wrestlers told us that Mark Carrano was easy to work with on the surface, but was hard to trust, particularly after the April 2020 releases. Those cuts in general eroded a lot of trust within the company, after several wrestlers were let go who were made long-term promises, and Carrano was said to be a part of that.

My Take:

  • This will be a story to follow in the upcoming months after Ace has been in the role for a bit.

2) Update On Batista-WWE Hall Of Fame

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Batista will not be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. The rumor going around is that this is due to a scheduling conflict.

Here is what Meltzer said:

“So Dave Bautista is not going into the Hall of Fame after all. The reason floating around was that there was a date conflict with him. So it’s weird.”

My Take:

  • This makes sense as Batista is a major name in Hollywood and only has certain dates available. It also probably makes sense to wait to induct him until there are live fans in attendance.
