Rumor Roundup: Two WWE Stars Receiving Attention From Hollywood, Why Sami Zayn Missed Smackdown, More

3) Another State Interested In Running Pro-Wrestling Shows

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer says that another state is interested in running pro-wrestling shows in their state (other than Florida).

That state is Oklahoma. Here is what Meltzer wrote:

The word out of Oklahoma is that Gov. Kevin Stitt is trying to bring in pro wrestling, MMA and boxing as well as a way to generate revenue. The only way to generate revenue from those events is with live attendance and people traveling to shows. The idea seems to be from a political perspective is that there will be far less scrutiny bringing sports that the media won’t care about, and moreso, that have no unions so there won’t be the same level of pressure from the outside on safety standards.

My Take:

  • Good news for WWE. They now have a back-up state in case they can’t do any more shows in Florida.

2) Drew McIntyre Pushing For A WWE PPV In The UK

During an interview, Drew McIntyre revealed that behind-the-scenes, he is strongly pushing for a WWE PPV event in the United Kingdom.

Here is what McIntyre said (h/t to Cultaholic for the quote below):

It’s not just something I’m visualizing, I’m actively working and pushing and talking about whenever I do UK media. I’m always trying to think outside the box, Tyson Fury seems to want to get involved in something. If it takes getting a Battle Of Britain going to get a UK PPV i don’t care, all that matters is when things get back to normal, i want to get back home. All 5 of us on an open-top bus from the top of Scotland, take it right down through the UK to the bottom of England, on a big tour to get the country rallied up. Tell the world this is where there should be a big PPV. Look at SummerSlam ‘92, how mental the fans were. We know how passionate UK fans are, we know we would sell out Wembley Stadium, Hamden, it’s going to be a big deal.”

My Take:

  • This is interesting since Drew is the current WWE Champion. Maybe WWE will listen to Drew and set one into motion for next year? It could be awesome and has me hopeful as someone who wants to see a UK PPV at some point. I am not even from the UK but I just think that it would be an amazing atmosphere.
