3) Backstage Notes On Tom Phillips’ Release From WWE
Tom Phillips was released by WWE on Thursday. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Phillips was very involved in helping with the other announcers in WWE before his release.
Here is what Johnson wrote:
We are told this exit was not part of the firings from earlier this week.
Behind the scenes, Phillips was very involved in producing and managing other announcers for the company as Senior Manager of On-Air Talent. He had been with WWE since 2012.
Update 2:35 PM EST: Tom Phillips was at the WWE NXT taping this past Tuesday. Phillips appeared on camera to call this Friday’s edition of 205 Live, which will be his final appearance for the company. He was also working behind the scenes as a producer on the NXT broadcast.
My Take:
- I do think WWE made a mistake. Phillips is a talented guy and I am surprised they gave up on him.
2) Backstage Note On Velveteen Dream’s Release From WWE
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Velveteen Dream was released by WWE after an incident with a top Superstar in the company.
Here is what Meltzer wrote:
We were told the firing didn’t have to do with those charges or anything that had been made public, but for a different incident that one of the top stars in the company alerted management to.
My Take:
- Seems like WWE made the right call. He doesn’t seem worth all of the hassle.
