3) WWE To Make Another Change To Summerlam?
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE might potentially change the starting time of Summerslam, so it takes place earlier on in the day. This is because the event is going head-to-head with the boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence Jr.
Here is what Johnson wrote:
Speaking of Summerslam, a number of readers have pointed out that Saturday 8/21 is the date for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Errol Spence Jr. boxing match. When asked about going head to head with that fight, a WWE source pointed out that they could easily choose to run earlier in the day, especially in a Pacific Time Zone on a Saturday afternoon, so the events would not take place at the same time. That would also keep PPV outlets from having to choose between the events, so stay tuned.
My Take:
- That would make sense. Maybe they are trying to get fans to watch both shows and turn it into an awesome sports day?
2) Locations Being Considered For Summerslam
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are several cities that have been discussed for hosting Summerslam. This includes Las Vegas, Miami, Inglewood, Houston, and Nashville.
Here is what Meltzer wrote:
Sports Business Journal, which has a close relationship with key WWE higher-ups, wrote that the show was targeted for the weekend of 8/22, and that it would take place at an NFL stadium, listing Las Vegas, Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA, NRG Stadium in Houston, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ and Nissan Stadium in Nashville as the possibilities. The 8/21 date would seem to make no sense because it would put it head-to-head against Pacquiao vs. Spence, and the combination of unfamiliar night for WWE PPVs, which have been on Sundays for more than a decade, and the boxing competition would hurt viewership greatly.
My Take:
- Las Vegas still seems like the heavy favorite to me. We will have to wait and see.
