Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.
5) Why Dolph Ziggler And Sonya Deville Were Split Up
According to journalist Tom Colohue, WWE split up Sonya Deville and Dolph Ziggler for a specific reason. The reason is that they feel like Sonya doesn’t need Dolph anymore as her mouthpiece.
Dolph was originally paired with Sonya to do most of the promo work but she has proven to be able to handle herself on the mic. Here is what Colohue said:
I did ask about this, and I was told quite simply, Deville doesn’t need him. I think he did extremely well, but his role was becoming smaller and smaller. They had promos where Sonya Deville was doing all the talking, even though Dolph Ziggler was there and Dolph, to my knowledge, was supposed to do the talking, but he said to Sonya Deville, ‘look, here are my lines, go for it.’ He knows what talent she has and really, I feel they did need to move on. Otis seems to be moving towards Baron Corbin. Corbin now seems to be going to feud with Riddle and so Heavy Machinery will be feuding with Miz and Morrison. That will give us the option of a six-person tag, and it does mean that Deville has similar people to work with, but I don’t think Rose and Deville will need that support at the moment. I think they have both really exceeded expectations.
My Take:
- This makes sense as Sonya has been doing great on the microphone by herself. I like that they are giving her a chance to shine on her own and I am excited to see what the future has in store for her.
4) Top Superstar Stick Ups For The WWE Writing Team
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, a top (unnamed) Superstar recently stuck up for the WWE writing team. They feel like it isn’t fair that Paul Heyman or Bruce Prichard received all of the credit and the blame mostly goes to the “stupid writers” when something is bad.
The feeling is that most of the writers are passionate about what they do and care for the talent that they work with. Here is what Sapp wrote:
It’s not all sad news and doom and gloom. We had a top WWE talent go to bat for the creative team and their hard work. They noted that they didn’t believe it was fair that either Heyman or Prichard got all of the credit, but much of the criticism went to “stupid” writers. It was stated to us that “95 percent” of the writers are really passionate about what they do, and care about the talent they’re writing for, and that the idea that there’s a lot of unscripted promos as stated by some isn’t necessarily true. The talent says the writers often have a thankless job, and are only subjected to criticism.
When we followed up with a second wrestler on on opposing brand, they actually echoed that sentiment. They wouldn’t go on record with their name, but gave us the anonymous quote- “there are a lot of people who make our jobs easier, writers and referees especially who go nameless because they’re not mentioned by name on tv. Almost all of them work hard and are willing to help.”
My Take:
- We also can’t forget that Vince McMahon always has the last say. I am sure that he has tweaked a bunch of their ideas at the last minute. Some have worked out and others have bombed. That is the nature of the job but it is cool to hear people sticking up for the writers for once.
