1) The Backstage Reaction To Samoa Joe On Commentary
Samoa Joe filled in for Dio Maddin on the RAW commentary team this week. This was because Maddin is being kept off WWE television to help sell the attack from Brock Lesnar a few weeks ago.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Joe will be going back to his role as a full-time wrestler when his thumb heals. While saying that, WWE officials were impressed with how good he was:
“A bright spot on the show was the work of Samoa Joe in the Dio Maddin spot as an announcer. He was fresh, quick, and got everything over with a no-nonsense delivery. Joe was so good in the role that you have to at least consider making it permanent.
“Joe is a regular wrestler and will be back in action when his broken thumb heals. We were told that everyone recognized how good Joe is.”
For those wondering, Dio Maddin is reportedly still a member of the RAW commentary team and the plan isn’t to replace him with anybody else. Still, this definitely makes it sound like WWE could be interested in Joe as an announcer after his in-ring career is over.
