3) Smackdown Segment Filmed In Front Of A Green Screen
According to WrestlingNews.co, the segment involving Bayley and Sasha Banks from Smackdown was taped with zero people in attendance. This segment was also taped in front of a green screen.
Here is what the site wrote:
There was a segment on this week’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown featuring Bayley and Sasha Banks that was done in the Performance Center without developmental talent in the building. The segment was shot in a way so fans watching at home could not see that the building was empty. Aside from Bayley and Banks, the only people in the building for the segment were the cameraman and the announcers at ringside. The crowd noise was added in post-production and a green screen was used so that they could insert Stephanie McMahon into the segment.
It’s unclear why this needed to be done but it’s no secret that there were a lot of rewrites as Tuesday was another chaotic day for wrestlers and employees at the tapings.
My Take:
- It definitely seems weird that they wouldn’t use any fans for this segment at all. Let’s hope that this has nothing to do with more positive COVID-19 tests in the company.
2) WWE Unhappy About Losing To AEW In The Ratings
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a lot of unhappiness in WWE about losing the ratings battle to AEW on a weekly basis.
Here is what Meltzer wrote:
Although nobody will say it, there is a lot of unhappiness about losing in the ratings every week. The unhappiness shouldn’t be losing as much as the complete inability to draw those under 50. NXT has always had writers but they were people who were on the main roster writing team who would also help write NXT.
My Take:
- NXT is still putting on strong shows, so I don’t think WWE needs to do anything drastic. They just need to keep putting on strong shows and trying new things. It is a marathon, not a sprint and WWE needs to remember that.
