3) Kurt Angle Was Responsible For AJ Styles vs The Undertaker
AJ Styles and The Undertaker faced off in a ‘Boneyard match’ at Wrestlemania 36. This match has received some heavy praise from fans so far. After the match, ESPN‘s Marc Raimondi shared an interesting conversation that he recently had with Kurt Angle. This conversation had to do with the advice that Angle recently gave to The Undertaker.
Angle says that The Undertaker reached out to him last year. This came after his disappointing match against Goldberg at WWE Super Showdown. During their conversation, The Undertaker expressed to Kurt that he wanted to redeem himself. Kurt says he told The Undertaker that he should wrestle AJ Styles. Angle also said facing Styles would be the best match that Undertaker has had in years:
My Take:
- Thank you Kurt Angle. He was right and that match was amazing.
2) What ESPN Wanted To Do For Wrestlemania 35 Weekend
Sports Illustrated has provided some details on a deal that was almost reached between WWE and ESPN for Wrestlemania 35 weekend.
ESPN wanted to have a desk at Wrestlemania and they also wanted to broadcast SportsCenter updates from the stadium. They also wanted to air backstage footage that we see on WWE 24 episodes:
The WrestleMania discussions with ESPN also got serious a year ago. ESPN was in deep discussion with WWE last year about having a desk at WrestleMania and airing WrestleMania SportsCenter breaks all weekend, but the talks died the week before WrestleMania 35.
A sticking point was McMahon did not want to reveal the behind-the-scenes aspects of WWE, including moments after the show, which makes sense because of the history of secrecy in pro wrestling. Of course, all that could have been acquired for an astronomical price, but the footage is far more valuable to WWE than it ever would be to ESPN.
My Take:
- I am glad that they didn’t sell those rights because I really enjoy the backstage stuff like WWE 24.
