3) The Long-Term Plans For The WWE Day 1 PPV
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is planning for Day 1 to become a yearly PPV event for the company.
Here is what Meltzer said:
“Okay, the deal is that Day 1 is obviously a Nick Khan idea, you know, or the idea of January 1st and the idea is not just this year doing it. The idea is that this will be a regular thing, a new holiday tradition for WWE. January 1st pay-per-view…
My Take:
- I don’t think its a bad idea. Seems like it will be a great day to watch wrestling when you are hungover from New Year’s Eve.
2) Why Lesnar vs Reigns Is Happening At Day 1
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns is happening at Day 1 because WWE wants to establish the PPV. Since Day 1 is going to be a yearly thing, they wanted to put on a strong match as the first main event.
Here is what Meltzer said:
“To establish this as a traditional big show, and the idea is to make this one of the biggest shows of the year, you need to establish it. Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns is the strongest match they’ve got. So, that’s the match they chose to establish it.
The feeling is that Royal Rumble didn’t need it. They’re trying to establish January 1st as one of the biggest shows of the year and so, they’re gonna put their biggest match in there.”
My Take:
- This is something that does make sense. If it goes well, people will get more excited for this to happen each year.
