Rumor Roundup: Possible WWE Free Agent Signing, Taya Valkyrie’s New WWE Name, More

3) Vince McMahon’s Reaction To Matt Riddle’s Botch On RAW

According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard loved Matt Riddle’s botch on RAW. This came when Riddle forgot his lines backstage while he was talking to Asuka.

Here is what Alvarez said:

The story I was told was he wasn’t told it was live but [Bruce] Prichard and Vince [McMahon] saw it and they just laughed and laughed and laughed. So, if it was live you can’t redo it. So I’m wondering if what actually happened was a pretape that he screwed up but they loved the pretape so much — the point is what you saw on TV was not a plan. He was supposed to deliver his line. He had some line about the scooters in Japan. He screwed up, they howled and they thought we got to put this on TV. Nevermind the fact that it makes your promotion look like World Championship Wrestling. It’s all about entertaining themselves. It entertained Bruce, it entertained Vince and so it went on television. That’s the story on Riddle and forgetting his line. He actually forgot his line and they thought it was funny.”

My Take:

  • It actually worked really well with Riddle’s character. One of the few people that you can say that about in terms of a botch.

2) Another Update On Charly Caruso’s Departure

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Charly Caruso turned down a new contract with WWE before she was removed from television. She eventually signed with ESPN.

Here is what Meltzer wrote:

She had turned down a WWE contract before the decision was made to remove her from the air and those in the company expected she was leaving for ESPN once she got the weekly “First Take Her Take” podcast.

My Take:

  • This is a strange story as we have gone from Charly having backstage heat in WWE and getting fired to her turning down a new contract and leaving herself. Maybe both parts are true? This is why you should always take rumors with a grain of salt.
