Rumor Roundup: Name Change Coming For NXT Superstar, Why Matt Hardy Is Returning On RAW, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) More On Cathy Kelley Leaving WWE

News broke on Friday that Cathy Kelley is leaving WWE. This came as a surprise as Cathy has been a staple of WWE programming for a few years now.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider is reporting that it was Kelley’s decision to leave the company and she was not fired:

According to multiple sources within WWE, Cathy Kelley gave notice that she wanted to exit the company and the company respected that decision.  We are told she put in her notice within the last few weeks.  It was not a case of the company releasing her.

Kelley had been with the company since 2016, signing with WWE after cutting her teeth with Championship Wrestling From Hollywood and Afterbuzz TV.

My Take:

  • I always liked Cathy and she was good at her job. It will be a loss for WWE but I am sure that another talented person will step up and be just fine. I wish her the best of luck in whatever is next for her.

4) The Reason Why Matt Hardy Is Returning On RAW

After Randy Orton viciously attacked Matt Hardy on RAW, many fans assumed that it would be the final appearance for Hardy in WWE. That is because his contract is expiring with WWE on March 1st and he isn’t expected to re-sign. In a surprise move, WWE announced Hardy vs Orton for RAW in a No Holds Barred match.

According to Ryan Satin on Twitter, WWE was really happy with the segment between Hardy and Orton, so they decided to keep it going:

Here’s what I’ve been told by sources: Matt passed on WWE’s latest contract offer last week, which is why they did the con-chair-to angle to write him off TV. Since it was so well-received though, they decided to extend this part of story another week.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider corroborates this report, saying that it was a late decision made by WWE:

PWInsider.com is told that creative direction was decided upon over the last 24 hours as Hardy was not originally slated for Raw and had even tweeted a goodbye message on social media.

My Take:

  • A smart move by WWE. Matt’s attack generated Orton a ton of heat, so they might as well give us a match between the two. I don’t hate it.
