Rumor Roundup: Latest On The Roman Reigns-Vince McMahon Situation, Jinder Mahal’s Future, More

1) The Latest On The Roman Reigns-Vince McMahon Situation

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer spoke about the rumors surrounding Roman Reigns and Vince McMahon. There has been some buzz over the past week after WWE edited Roman out of the video package for Wrestlemania 31. This led to rumors that Vince is mad at Roman for his decision to pull out of Wrestlemania 36.

According to Meltzer, Vince’s reaction to Roman changes on a daily basis. Here is what he wrote:

There isn’t a rule on erasing Reigns, only that commentators aren’t to mention his name. On 5/5, FS 1 did a one hour special on Reigns and on Smackdown a few weeks ago when they were showing the embarrassing HHH clips, they did show Reigns beating him at WrestleMania.

We’re told the reaction by Vince McMahon regarding Reigns and how to handle the situation “changes daily based on which way the wind is blowing,” which is why one day they show him beating HHH on Smackdown, then they edited him off Raw, then they do a Make-a-Wish thing and have no clips of him, then they do an investment conference and Vince McMahon never says his name, and then they have a one hour special on him on FS 1.

On the other hand, Tom Colohue noted recently that he has not heard of any heat between WWE and Roman. He says that the company is just not mentioning Reigns right now because they don’t want people asking where he is:

Well, none of their editing is accidental. We should be certain of that. They are obviously doing this intentionally and for a reason. I get asked this question a lot, and as such, I ask this question a lot. I’ve got to say people are getting sick kind of asking me because it keeps coming up. But I’m still yet to hear anything about any heat within the company. Sources within the company have assured me that they are just keeping Roman away from prominence because he is not there and they don’t want people asking questions about where he is.

My Take:

  • I am definitely on the side that says there is no heat between WWE and Roman. To me, this seems like a silly story that is just going to keep escalating until Reigns returns to television. I would be shocked if this ends up hurting Reigns’ WWE career in the long run.
