Rumor Roundup: How WWE Handles Drug Test Failures, Big Plans For WWE Newcomer, More

1) How WWE Handles Drug Test Failures

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE keeps information tightly guarded when Superstars fail drug tests. This information is usually only known by the top guys in the company, like Vince McMahon and Triple H.

Here is what Meltzer said (h/t to Ringside News for the quotes below):

“In the situations that I mentioned the writing team — the creative team knew nothing about any of it when it was going on. They were not informed about it. I mean nobody is informed about it. Obviously Vince knows. I would assume that Triple H knows. I couldn’t even tell you that for sure. You know the guy who’s head of the [drug testing] department will call Vince and Vince will do whatever Vince does and they don’t tell anyone.”

Meltzer also says that WWE times the suspensions to their pleasing. So if a guy fails a test in June, they might not enforce it until several months down the road:

“Maybe they didn’t think that he was going to be out for a month. Now they know he’s gonna be out for a month [with a concussion]. It’s not that weird, I mean they’ve timed suspensions before. Plenty of guys we’d hear about guys failing — I mean you’ve heard stories about guys who fail the test in June and in September they get suspended. I mean, that’s not weird.”

My Take:

  • Since it is pro-wrestling, I guess it doesn’t bother me that WWE waits on some of these suspensions. It is definitely interesting to me though that WWE keeps information on these tests tightly guarded.
