Rumor Roundup: Dominick Mysterio’s Future In WWE, Backstage Reaction To Nia Jax, More

3) Why WWE Can’t Ask Their Superstars To Take Pay Cuts

Over the past week, there have been some reports that WWE’s executives and referees have taken some pay cuts. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer cleared up why WWE can’t ask their Superstars to take pay cuts right now.

Meltzer says that WWE can’t cut Superstars’ pay because it would be a breach of their contracts. As a result, this would allow for them to go to AEW if they wanted:

“The thing is the talent is under contract. If the talent is asked to take a pay cut then they become free agents and then they can go to AEW. So the talent is gonna be the last ones. Perhaps the undercard talent, I mean they may offer people who they don’t think will go, or they don’t think will be interest, or they don’t care if they go. Then you’re breaching contracts. I don’t see them breaching contracts with talent. That will be the last one that they do, but yeah, it’s another one. They gotta keep those profits up.”

My Take:

  • I was actually wondering if Superstars would be forced to take pay cuts during this time. I am glad to see that it has been cleared up.

2) Summerslam Match Scrapped

According to Wrestling INC, Rob Gronkowski is no longer under contract with WWE. This comes after he dropped the 24/7 Title to R-Truth on RAW this week.

Wrestling INC says that GRONK was originally scheduled for a match at Summerslam but those plans have been scrapped:

Gronkowski signed with WWE this past March and was expected to work a match at SummerSlam in August. Wrestling Inc. has learned that the match will not be happening.

My Take:

  • My guess is that WWE was planning Gronk vs Mojo Rawley or Gronk vs Jinder Mahal. Those are the two matches that would make the most sense based on Gronk’s appearances on WWE television over the years.
