Rumor Roundup: Becky Lynch’s Salary, Major Royal Rumble Return, More

3) More On Rey Mysterio Dropping The United States Title

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Andrade winning the United States Title from Rey Mysterio was always WWE’s plan.

Here is what Meltzer wrote:

The title change wasn’t a change of plans. Andrade was planned for the title, which is why he lost twice to Humberto Carrillo, to get Carrillo into the U.S. title chase. That was planned several weeks back but the NXT angle with A.J. Styles led to some changes and Carrillo lost steam, so they went with Mysterio. It also appears, at least by this week, that on the Raw side, there is an idea to do more things at house shows, such as the Randy Orton knee injury angle on the 12/29 show in Hershey, PA. The idea was to have Mysterio lose to set up Andrade to defend against babyface on the way up, and move Mysterio into the program with Owens & Samoa Joe against Seth Rollins & The AOP.

My Take:

  • I just hope that they keep the belt on Andrade for a long time. I think that he has all the makings of a great Champion and will give us multiple great matches.

2) The Backstage Reaction To The Recent Paige Rumors

Over the past week or so, there have been plenty of rumors about Paige possibly returning to the ring.

According to journalist Tom Colohue, this isn’t happening. People backstage also laughed when he brought up the rumor to them:

It has been denied by her mother, it has been denied many times over the years by Paige, and there is literally no evidence whatsoever that Paige will be returning.

Backstage people in the locker room laughed when I mentioned it. They just found the whole concept ridiculous.

My Take:

  • Paige’s health is definitely the most important thing. Her retirement was only recently too, so I never really bought into the rumors.
