Rumor Roundup: Backstage Shake-Up In WWE, Possible Fastlane Match, More

3) Why The Miz Lost The Belt

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the only reason The Miz won the WWE Championship was to put the belt on Bobby Lashley. They needed a transitional Champion and The Miz fit that role.

Here is what Meltzer said:

“It was a way to get the title on Lashley, that’s just what it was. They want Drew to be the challenger on the first night with fans. So, that’s the direction they went. They could have gone with someone else as a transitional champion, but the thing is when you’re a one-week champion it kinda makes you suck. So, you might as well do someone who you don’t portray as a main event guy.”

“Let’s say they put Sheamus in there, it would make Sheamus look like a complete goof; and then based on who they’ve got and who they’re pushing it pretty much, I mean if you look at that side [of the heel roster], I mean Miz had the briefcase.”

My Take:

  • This makes sense. The Miz’s character isn’t hurt by losing the belt so quickly. Lashley also came out of the feud looking extremely strong and has some serious momentum right now.

2) Sami Zayn’s Documentary

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, we will be seeing some of the footage that Sami Zayn is putting together for his documentary. This is not just a gimmick for television, there are plans to actually air that footage at some point.

Here is what Sapp wrote:

If you wanted more of Sami Zayn and his documentary story, you’re in luck. He’d mentioned that he can’t wait for everyone to see what he has in store, linking to a WWE Network tweet. We’ve been told this is an actual WWE Network-Peacock production being put forth, and that there have also been talks of using it as a video package on Smackdown.

My Take:

  • This will be funny whenever it airs. I love what Sami is doing right now.
