Rumor Roundup: Backstage Reaction To Vince Carrying On With Wrestlemania, Update On The Revival, More

Here are some of the latest WWE rumors that are floating around.

5) Update On The Revival

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Scott Dawson’s contract with WWE has not yet expired, despite him Tweeting “free at last”. Meltzer says that his contract is up in a few weeks.

Meltzer also notes that The Revival hasn’t gotten paid in two months:

Regarding The Revival, there were reports that Scott Dawson’s contract has expired because he tweeted “free at last,” but officially it has not. But it’s just a few weeks away from expiring. As noted last week, because The Revival had already surpassed the downside figure on their contracts and are no longer being booked, they haven’t received a paycheck in nearly two months…So they’d have to not make any money until mid-June unless they sign new deals and also ask to be paid ahead if that would even be an option, because even if they signed and were re-booked, there’s no lock there will be shows to be paid off.

My Take:

  • The Revival to AEW seems like a lock at this point. I would be absolutely shocked if they end up staying with WWE.

4) More On WWE Giving Away Free Access To The WWE Network

Mike Johnson of PWinsider has provided some more details about why WWE is giving away a big portion of the WWE Network for free right now.

Here is what Johnson said:

They are not giving away the Network.  What WWE did, and should be commended for, is opened up a big portion of the Network’s archives for free to those who want to access it.  We are told it’s only for a short period of time and was done to give those who are social distancing and being responsible during the pandemic something more they can do to pass the time.  For those of us who are paying for the Network, I look at it like this, we are helping WWE to financially cover assisting those who might not be able to afford the Network during a horrible time.

My Take:

  • WWE gets a lot of crap but I appreciate that they are doing this. It also might be a smart business move as it could get older fans hooked on pro-wrestling again.
