1) The Backstage Reaction To Randy Orton Winning The WWE Title
Randy Orton defeated Drew McIntyre at Hell in a Cell to win the WWE Title. According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select (subscribe here), there was a lot of confusion backstage after Orton won the Title.
This confusion was mostly due to WWE’s decision to put the belt on Orton since he has lost a few matches as of late. Here is what Sapp wrote:
Most of the wrestlers that we spoke to were also confused about the timing of the move considering he was heavily protected from WrestleMania to Summerslam, and then beaten several times since.
It was also noted that Orton is very well-liked in WWE and he has helped out a lot of younger talent over the past year. The confusion was booking-related and not anything personal against Orton.
My Take:
- In hindsight, it was weird that they had Randy lose to Drew a few times. He also lost clean to Keith Lee recently. I feel like they could have done a better job of protecting him but I don’t think it is a huge deal.
