Rumor Roundup: Backstage Note On Pete Dunne’s Future, Female Star Changing Brands? More

3) Backstage Note On Summerslam

According to Andrew Zarian on Twitter, there have been rumors about Summerslam being cancelled but as of right now, the show is going on as planned at Allegiant Stadium.

Here is what Zarian wrote:

Just spoke to a contact at Allegiant Stadium. Mentioned he had heard the rumors but nothing internal regarding SummerSlam being canceled “As of today the event is happening and we are prepping for it as we speak”

My Take:

  • Fingers crossed that the show doesn’t get cancelled.

2) WWE Making Contingency Plans

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE and AEW are both making contingency plans in case their shows get cancelled due to COVID-19.

Here is what Meltzer wrote:

On the flip side, both WWE and AEW are making contingency plans based on worst-case scenarios with shutdowns with the latest wave of Delta variant COVID cases. They’d be negligent it they didn’t consider the possibilities, but in a worst case scenario all the major shows upcoming from both companies could be in jeopardy. For SummerSlam, because it’s in Las Vegas, there is a mask mandate indoors and Allegiant Stadium is indoors. AEW’s backup plans would likely be to return to Jacksonville outdoors in a worst case scenario. WWE can probably go back to Florida or take up residency with a Thunderdome setup again

My Take:

  • Good to see that they have a plan in place if things get really bad. Fingers crossed that they don’t have to use these contingency plans.
