1) Backstage News On Steve Cutler’s Release From WWE
On Fightful Select (subscribe here), Sean Ross Sapp provided some details about Steve Cutler’s release from WWE. For those who missed it, WWE announced on Thursday that Cutler had been let go from the company. Here is what Sapp wrote:
There was heat on Cutler specifically from Vince McMahon when Cutler was sidelined from WWE TV after contracting COVID-19 in early January.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided some more details. Meltzer says that Cutler’s firing was more of a disciplinary measure after he hosted a New Year’s Eve Party. Here is what Meltzer wrote:
”Steve Cutler, 33, was released on 2/4. He and Wesley Blake were put into a group with Corbin. Then Cutler, the boyfriend of Deonna Purrazzo of Impact, got sick and then the whole idea was dropped after he missed a week. This was said to be a disciplinary reason that got Vince McMahon livid when he heard about it. Purrazzo didn’t directly reference it, but moments after his release she only tweeted “COVID strikes again.” The belief is that it had to do with his New Year’s Eve party that led to that and that McMahon had promised a few wrestlers like Reigns a safe environment when he returned and Cutler was around all the talent. Cutler was training at the Performance Center in the big guys class on the day he got fired.
My Take:
- This is a big story if Vince is now firing people who aren’t taking COVID-19 seriously. I am interested to hear more on this topic over the next few weeks.
