3) Backstage Note On WWE Releasing Vanessa Borne
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE was very high on Vanessa Borne and at one point, she was scheduled for a move to the WWE main roster. Something changed after the pandemic hit and she ended up getting released this week.
Here is what Meltzer said:
“Vanessa Borne, fantastic look, and very good charisma. But they hadn’t used her in NXT in a while, and obviously something happened with her falling out of favor because she was groomed for the main roster. She was on the list to be called up. Not a specific date, but it was like someone who they were really high on.
“And you could tell if you watched NXT for a period that they were really high on her, and then, once COVID came, she went home, and I don’t know what happened. When she went home, they never used her again. She came back but they never used her, and then, she was stunned that she was fired.”
My Take:
- I do remember the rumors about her possibly being called up several months ago. I always thought the rumors were random as she didn’t make a big name for herself in NXT. Still, I am excited to follow her career post-WWE and wish her the best of luck.
2) Backstage Note On WWE Releasing Drake Wuertz (Part 1)
According to Jon Alba, there were people in WWE who felt uncomfortable around referee, Drake Wuertz. This comes after Wuertz was released by WWE.
Here is what Alba Tweeted:
In the past 3 weeks, multiple WWE and NXT Superstars told me they believed Drake Wuertz was racist, and felt uncomfortable around him at the WWE Performance Center. One noted they even felt odd with him reffing closed-door matches at the PC. This seemed like it was inevitable.
My Take:
- I did start to think that this was going to happen after Wuertz kept popping up in the news for things outside of the ring. Definitely wasn’t surprised to see him go.
