3) Edge’s New Contract & How Much AEW Offered Him
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer spoke about Edge’s new contract with WWE.
Meltzer says that AEW offered Edge $3 million a year, which was matched by WWE. Here is what he wrote:
“He wouldn’t have been allowed to do that spear at SummerSlam if he wasn’t cleared. This all dates back to last summer when AEW made Edge a major offer to wrestle a few matches per year. Edge used that offer, which he told WWE was for $3 million per year and he would start when the company got television as his leverage, to get the same deal with WWE. So that was his leverage to get one of the highest deals in WWE history.
“The reports were out that his deal was for five matches and 25 television shows per year, but we are told that the money figure is correct but the date numbers are not accurate and that there are more matches and dates involved in the deal. The deal is far less than people like Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg have gotten, since Goldberg earned $2 million just for doing his match with Undertaker.”
My Take:
- I am happy for Edge that he is back doing what he loves. Plus, he is getting well-paid for it, which is another big win for him.
2) Why WWE Co-Presidents George Barrios & Michelle Wilson Were Fired
According to Tom Colohue, WWE Co-Presidents George Barrios and Michelle Wilson were fired due to a “lack of big picture thinking”.
Here is what he wrote:
Sportskeeda can exclusively report that these releases were made due to a “lack of big picture thinking” present in the two. This is according to sources who have worked close to both. Reports from inside the WWE head office explain that while this did come out of nowhere, there were a number of negative encounters between Vince McMahon and his Co-Presidents in the build up.
My Take:
- WWE stock has dropped quite a bit over the past few days so this was a risky move by WWE. We will have to wait and see who ends up replacing them.
