On Monday Night RAW this week, there was some great storytelling involving the Shield. Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler tried to play some mind games with Dean Ambrose, telling him that he is underappreciated and the forgotten member of the Shield. The end of RAW saw a conflicted Dean embrace with his Shield brothers.
This was obviously a big tease on a potential Dean heel turn. It has been a popular fan theory since last year that Dean could be the next one to turn his back on the group.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), Dave Meltzer shared the original plans for the Shield prior to Dean’s injury. It turns out that WWE was planning to turn Dean heel before he got hurt. Here is a quote (via WrestlingNews.co):
“Before he tore his triceps and had surgery, he was going to turn heel on The Shield when they put The Shield back together. That was the plan. Dean Ambrose was going to wrestle Seth Rollins at WrestleMania this year. That was the plan. That doesn’t mean they’re gonna do the plan now. Doesn’t mean they’re not gonna do the plan.”
It is definitely interesting that Dean was originally planned to turn heel. Like Meltzer says, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen now but you would have to think that it is at least an option on the table. Maybe RAW this week was some foreshadowing for months down the road when he turns?
This is just a rumor so take with a grain of salt for now. Do you think that Dean will eventually turn heel? Let us know in the comment section below.
