Four NXT Superstars were called up to the WWE main roster this week. Ricochet, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, and Aleister Black all made an impact on both RAW and Smackdown.
We have a rumor to pass your way about Vince McMahon’s reasoning behind the latest set of call-ups.
This rumor comes via Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here).
Here is what he said (h/t to WrestlingNews.co for the quote below):
“Vince felt that the reason the ratings are down is because the product is stale, the stars are stale and ‘we don’t have any superstars and these guys that we have aren’t gonna be superstars so we need to make new superstars so we gotta get guys that we haven’t ruined.’”
My Take: If this is true, Vince knows that he is responsible for ruining these Superstars right? Adding four NXT call-ups is not going to magically fix the product or ratings. He needs to build storylines and characters that fans buy into and on a consistent basis. The NXT stars are a decent stopgap for now, but it won’t fix their problems long-term.
