Kevin Owens turned heel on this past week’s episode of Smackdown Live. This came after he turned on Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.
According to a rumor floating around, these were not the original plans for Owens.
Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), suggests that WWE originally had plans to keep Owens as a long-term babyface. Here is a quote from Meltzer on the plans for Owens prior to his heel turn:
“The original plan for Owens was to be a guy next door babyface, who ate junk food, had the same problems everyone else had, had kids, but could kick ass and was given the ultimate modern WWE babyface finisher, the stone cold stunner (which at one point they were testing Becky Lynch out with at house shows)”
Due to the undisclosed injury to Daniel Bryan, WWE decided to turn Owens heel. Prior to this though, Owens was originally planned to be the number 2 babyface on Smackdown behind Roman Reigns.
Would you have liked Owens to get a lengthy babyface run? Or, are you okay with them turning him heel? Let me know in the comment section below.
