WWE shook things up on Smackdown Live this week. Charlotte Flair defeated Asuka to win the Smackdown Women’s Championship, which seemingly came out of nowhere.
We were originally supposed to see a fatal 4-way match on the episode between Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Carmella, and Naomi. The winner was going to face Asuka at Wrestlemania 35.
So what was originally planned prior to Vince McMahon changing things up at the last-minute?
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), the original plans were for Mandy to win the fatal 4-way match.
This would have been a rematch from the Fastlane PPV, where Asuka won after Mandy slipped on the ring apron that was lifted by Sonya. Meltzer adds that there was no indication that Mandy was going to win the Title at Wrestlemania.
