Rumor On The Original Idea Discussed For Tyson Fury’s Match At Crown Jewel

Tyson Fury faced off against Braun Strowman at WWE’s Crown Jewel PPV in Saudi Arabia. Fury won the match via count-out after knocking Braun out with a punch.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), Dave Meltzer discussed the original idea that was pitched for Fury in Saudi Arabia.

Meltzer says that WWE was originally thinking about doing Tyson Fury vs Brock Lesnar. Here is what he wrote:

According to those internally, Lesnar vs. Fury was discussed but never got past early discussions, likely due to Velasquez having the storyline from the past and being the bigger star in the U.S. market, which is WWE’s primary market.

And for Saudi Arabia, it wasn’t the matchups that were important as much as delivering matches with Fury and Velasquez.
