Many fans were thrilled to see Finn Balor defeat Roman Reigns this past week on RAW. The win earned Balor the right to face Seth Rollins for the newly created WWE Universal Championship at Summerslam. Social media was thrilled with Balor’s win as it proved that anything can happen in this ‘New Era’ of WWE. Not everyone was thrilled though. We first heard Vince Russo’s rant regarding Finn Balor defeating Roman Reigns. We now have wrestling legend Ric Flair joining in on the latest episode of the Ric Flair Show.
Flair began by saying no disrespect to Balor but he thought Roman Reigns should have won the match. He admits to being a big fan of Reigns and says he has one of the best looks in the history of the business. He also thinks he would rather see Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins than Finn Balor vs Seth Rollins.
Flair continued, saying that he doesn’t see a ‘cruiserweight’ (like Balor) ever main eventing Wrestlemania:
“If I’m looking at what’s going to draw money, what I would pay to see, I would pay to see Dolph against Ambrose before I’d pay to see Finn Bálor against Seth Rollins, so I think it’s phenomenal. I think Finn Bálor is great too. I just think you’ve got a legitimate heavyweight in Seth Rollins, a legitimate heavyweight in Roman Reigns, and I don’t think we’ll ever see the day, and I could be totally wrong, that a cruiserweight will ever main event a WrestleMania. And that’s what you have to look at, I think, in the total picture of the [professional wrestling] business.. He’s of that [cruiserweight] size. I mean, if you look at the two of them side by side, he [has] got a great physique, gosh, but he’s smaller. Yeah, I don’t think he weighs 200 pounds” (Source: The Ric Flair Show, H/T WrestlingInc).
Pretty interesting comments from Flair. Balor is fairly small but I don’t think it is unbelievable the way he wrestles that he could beat someone like Roman Reigns. I also think the whole idea of size doesn’t matter as much in today’s wrestling.
