The 2018 edition of the Mae Young Classic was recently taped at Full Sail University in Orlando. It will be airing in September on the WWE Network and the finals will take place at October’s Evolution PPV event.
We have a report to pass your way on the original plans for the finals of the Mae Young Classic. The rest of this post will contain Mae Young Classic spoilers, so make sure that you are aware.
Now that the tournament is finished taping, we know that Io Shirai will be facing off against Toni Storm in the finals. According to a report from Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, this actually had to be changed.
Satin says that Tegan Nox was originally booked to go to the finals. After she suffered a serious leg injury during her quarterfinals match, WWE had to change their plans.
Based on the bracket, that would have meant Nox was planned to defeat Io Shirai in the semis. That would have certainly been interesting since Shirai was the heavy favorite coming into the event.
It also makes the injury to Tegan that much more heartbreaking.
