Report On The Original Plans For The Universal Championship At Crown Jewel

Crown Jewel was supposed to feature a triple threat match for the WWE Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman. After the sad news that Roman’s leukemia has returned, Reigns vacated the Title and the match was changed to Strowman vs Lesnar.

We have a report to pass your way on the original plans for the Universal Championship at Crown Jewel.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), the original plan for Crown Jewel (if the triple threat match would have taken place) was for Roman Reigns to retain the Universal Championship.

Meltzer says that the original plan for Brock was for him to finish up his contractual obligations with WWE at Crown Jewel. With the news of what happened to Roman, WWE made the decision to put the Universal Championship on Brock again.

This caused WWE to sign Lesnar to a new deal, which reportedly means two more matches (at least). Lesnar vs AJ Styles at Survivor Series is confirmed. The other match is speculated to be against Braun Strowman, either at the Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania 35.

Meltzer says that Brock’s new contract allows for him to fight in the UFC whenever he wants. He is rumored to be facing Daniel Cormier for the UFC Heavyweight Championship soon.

In other news, here is the latest on why Shane McMahon won the WWE World Cup.
