Roman Reigns made the heartbreaking announcement on Monday Night RAW this week that his Leukemia has returned. This comes after he has been in remission for the past 11 years.
A report from Wade Keller of PWTorch provides some additional details on what was going on backstage during the segment.
According to Keller, almost nobody backstage knew about Roman Reigns’ situation before he went out to the ring on Monday Night to make his announcement.
Keller says that the “fellow wrestlers, the writers, and even the announcers didn’t know and were not tipped off ahead of time”. He adds that there is a small chance that his inner circle of friends in WWE were made aware of the situation. Other than that, it came as a legitimate shock to everyone.
Keller says that everybody stopped what they were doing backstage and it shook everybody to their core. None of them were tipped off that a big announcement was about to be made.
Update: Mike Johnson of PWInsider says that 99% of those in WWE had no idea what Roman was going to announce before he walked out for the segment. He adds that only the most “upper-tier members of WWE management” and members of Reigns’ family knew he was ill. The commentators were apparently not filled in beforehand.
Reigns missed this past weekend’s live events, which is something that is extremely unusual for him. There were rumors floating around that Reigns could be injured but nobody expected it to be anything like what happened.
We will let you know if anything new develops on the situation. We want to share our love and support to Reigns, his family, and his friends.
