The Reason Why WWE Is Cutting Down On The Number Of PPV’s In 2018

The 2018 WWE PPV schedule dropped online this weekend. As many fans noticed, WWE will be cutting down on the number of Pay-Per-View events that they are doing. After Clash of Champions next month, 2017 will have had 16 PPV’s. The new PPV schedule only features 14 events on it for 2018.

So why did WWE cut down on the number of events?

In the latest The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), Dave Meltzer mentioned that WWE made the decision to cut back the number of shows based on WWE network numbers.

According to Meltzer, Network subscription patterns didn’t change much after they increased the number of shows.  Since WWE Network revenue didn’t increase, WWE was adding extra expenses for the additional shows, without seeing an increase in profit.

This will make fans happy who felt like there was too many WWE PPV’s in a year.
