You may have noticed that Asuka has been using a different finishing move over the past few weeks. Instead of using the ‘Asuka Lock’, she has been using a Flying cross armbar as her finisher. This includes tap out victories against both Alicia Fox & Dana Brooke while using the armbar.
So why the change of finisher?
Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), speculates that Asuka switching to an armbar could be leading to a major match down the road.
With Asuka using the armbar and on the receiving end of a “shooter push”, Meltzer says that this could lead to a natural match up between her and Ronda Rousey.

As noted prior, Ronda Rousey signing with WWE is reportedly “imminent”. The armbar was Rousey’s signature move in Mixed Martial Arts, winning 9 fights with the submission.
Also, fans have speculated that the ‘Asuka Lock’ is very similar to Samoa Joe’s ‘Coquina Clutch’. There is no word if this played any role in the decision to change the move though since they both used it while they were in NXT together.

i dont think it being similiar to samoa joe is the reason either. triple/seth rollins, bigshow/kane/undertaker, etc etc
