Original Plans For Finn Balor Prior To His Injury

As you likely have heard by now, Finn Balor was injured at Summerslam in his match against Seth Rollins. After winning the WWE Universal Championship, Balor was forced to drop the title the next night on RAW. It was later revealed that he would be out for possibly 6 months to repair his torn labrum. Horrible news for wrestling fans as there were reportedly some pretty awesome plans in place for the next few months with him as Champion.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required but recommended), Balor was set to have his first WWE Title defense against Kevin Owens. This would happen at the ‘Clash of Champions’ event (the first RAW exclusive PPV) next month.

This would also reportedly build into a triple threat for the Hell in a Cell event that would feature Balor, Kevin Owens and his former tag team partner Chris Jericho. If you are a fan of Jericho’s podcast, you know that he has been chomping at the bit to work with Balor. He even revealed that the original plans for Balor’s Summerslam debut was supposed to be against him until it got nixed and Balor was given the title.

As a fan of all three guys, this would be pretty awesome. I think a lot of fans will be disappointed about not seeing this come to fruition.

I have to say that this gives me some optimism about KO winning the title this upcoming Monday on RAW against Seth Rollins, Big Cass and Roman Reigns. Rollins is the odds on favorite to win but I could see KO winning the belt and being an entertaining champion.

  1. I don’t like the line-up for the Monday title bout. Big Cass is there as filler because Vince likes big guys, but he really shouldn’t be in singles until the tag team runs its course. Reigns still isn’t ready to be put back into the big picture, so he shouldn’t really b in it either. I’d much rather have a good singles between KO and Rollins, we haven’t seen much of those two against each other.
