One of the biggest stories in the wrestling world over the past few weeks has to do with Neville. There are rumors that Neville has asked for his release from WWE, with Dave Meltzer recently saying that he is “100% gone” from the company.
Here are some more details on Neville’s departure thanks to a report from Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated.
According to the report, Neville has been unhappy with WWE since January.
One of the reasons cited for Neville’s unhappiness is his match against Austin Aries being left off the Wrestlemania 33 DVD. The kickoff show matches were not included on the DVD, meaning that the talent on the kickoff matches didn’t get any royalties on what is the best-selling DVD of the year. The report also says the lack of payoffs and rough life on the road contributed to Neville’s decision. Neville also was “balking” at the idea of losing to Enzo Amore on RAW.
According the report, Vince McMahon wasn’t happy with Neville walking out on the company. Barrasso goes on to say that walking out is the ‘kiss of death’ from Vince.
Vince ultimately holds the cards for what happens with Neville’s future. It is unclear when his contract ends but he could be forced to sit out until it expires, instead of Vince granting him his release. Vince holds all the cards here and could be happy with just paying Neville to stay home instead of him going to another company. The fact that Neville hasn’t been released yet could be a sign that he will be forced to wait out his contract.
