News broke last week that Impact Wrestling officials recently met with WWE officials at WWE Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. This left many fans wondering what this meeting could be about.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), Dave Meltzer provided some more news on the recent meeting between Impact and WWE.
According to Meltzer, Triple H met with Ed Nordholm and Scott D’Amore. According to the report, it was actually WWE who requested the meeting and not the other way around. There was a rumor that Impact was pitching WWE on something but that doesn’t seem to be correct.
No deal of note came out of the meeting according to Meltzer. He added that “as far as the meeting goes, really the only thing being said is that the days when the two sides were enemies are supposed to be over.”
Impact Wrestling is also reportedly doing a lot better financially. Even though the company has lost a lot of money in previous years, Meltzer says it is now a much more efficient business.
Our Take
I find it very interesting that WWE requested the meeting. It will be interesting to see if WWE and Impact work together in the future. It would be fun to see the odd Impact Star appear in a WWE tournament like the Mae Young Classic or Cruiserweight Classic. WWE has also used some footage from Impact’s library in the past, so more of that would be cool for future WWE Network shows.
I would say it is good news that WWE and Impact are on good terms. I don’t know if it will lead to anything but I think it is good that the door seems to be open.
