More Details On Why Vince McMahon Created The ‘Wild Card Rule’

Vince McMahon implemented the ‘Wild Card Rule’ on this week’s episode of RAW. He explained it as on every episode of RAW, 4 Superstars from Smackdown are eligible to appear. Also, on every episode of Smackdown, 4 Superstars from RAW are eligible to appear.

We have some more details to pass your way on why Vince implemented this rule.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), this was implemented in response to pressure from NBC Universal (USA Network) and FOX.

According to Meltzer, WWE has been facing outside pressure from NBC Universal and FOX to get the ratings up. The networks will not be happy with how poor the ratings are and how much money they are going to be paying WWE in the fall. There is a feeling from the networks that both shows don’t have enough star power.

There has apparently been pressure from NBC Universal and Fox to have the top WWE Superstars work both shows. NBC was specifically asking questions about the ratings drop in the third hour as of late and why they would move Roman Reigns over to Smackdown.

The ‘Wild Card Rule’ now allows top stars to appear on both shows whenever WWE wants. It was also noted that Vince McMahon is set on keeping the brand split, which is why they went this route instead of ending it completely.
