The big topic of conversation among wrestling fans over the past few days has been about Big Cass’ release from WWE. It seems clear based on various reports that multiple issues played a factor in Cass being let go from the company. This includes some personal conduct issues and also backstage heat on him for going off script during a Smackdown Live segment.
Below is some more backstage news on the situation via Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here). Meltzer says that Cass’ firing came due to a variety of incidents.
According to Meltzer, Cass blew off a rehearsal for a promo on Smackdown a few weeks ago. This rehearsal was specifically requested by Kevin Dunn. Cass ended up going long on the promo during the live show (that he didn’t rehearse). There was reportedly a ton of heat about the promo and Vince McMahon hated it so much that he fired the writer.
Meltzer notes that there was some negativity towards Cass from some of the backstage producers dating back to his feud with the Big Show last year. Also, Cass made some enemies with the locker room a few years ago for vocally defending Donald Trump while in an argument with Sami Zayn about the treatment of Muslims. Both of these weren’t reasons for his firings but examples of his backstage relationships.
The company didn’t wish him the best in his future endeavors during his release statement. Meltzer says that he was told by those within the company that this was by design because the company was very unhappy with him.
It is clear from all the reports coming out that there wasn’t a single issue that led to Cass being let go. It seems like a variety of different things.
Speaking of Cass, here was Enzo Amore’s Tweet after the news broke.
